God continues to touch hearts in the community of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We recently shared the story Home Improvement in Africa on our blog of Meseret and her son, Milon, whose rented home was crumbling and in desperate need of repair. God has provided “more than all we ask or imagine.”
Through the blessing of a partnership with the Washington-based Journey Church, Repi Kale Heywet Church was mobilized to perform the repairs and provide more suitable housing for Meseret and Milon. But instead, Meseret’s landlord made the decision to rebuild the home himself, incurring all the costs of repair and maintaining her rent at its current levels. God is moving in this community, transforming lives and changing hearts to care for the widow and the orphan.
With the funds raised by Journey Church now freed for other purposes, Repi Kale Heywet Church considered how they could best be used for Meseret and her son. The church chose to split the funds, with half being put into savings for healthcare and half going towards a micro-loan for Meseret to start a trading business. Both Meseret and Milon are HIV-positive, so the savings can provide for future health needs. The micro-loan will allow Meseret to form her own business to provide for herself and her son.
We rejoice at the work God is doing through church partnerships and in local communities. Meseret and Milon have been blessed by the love of the church, and their story has clearly touched hearts around them. We look forward to more good news in Ethiopia as hearts and lives are transformed!
