Culture

  • Cuisine varies greatly depending on the region and traditions of that region, but it frequently includes food such as pearl millet, rice, and lentils.
  • Much of India’s society is controlled by the caste system, a social hierarchy that creates restrictions for most of the people of India.
  • While nuclear families are becoming more common within urban areas of India, multi-generational patriarchal joint families are typical.
  • The groundwork of Hindu philosophy, mythology, theology, and literature was laid during the Vedic period (c. 1700 – 500 BCE), and many of those beliefs and practices still exist today.

Why India?

World Orphans believes that transformation and restoration in every aspect of life is best accomplished through the limitless power of the Gospel. That’s why we partner with gospel-centered churches in India, churches positioned on the frontlines of extreme poverty, prostitution, hunger, child slavery and abandonment, disease, and political unrest. These churches are uniquely suited to shine the light of Christ into the darkest neighborhoods in and around Hyderabad so that families can experience the full redemption of Jesus Christ.

Program Overview

The Goal

Our Indian church partners are located near the major city of Hyderabad. They have a passion for caring for the most vulnerable in their communities, with ministries that seek to reunify orphaned children with their biological families and facilitate church-based foster care, as well as provide educational opportunities for students, and empower caregivers to thrive.
